HSIE Coordinator News
Our Year 11 and Year 12 Legal Studies students were visited by Dr Ari Lander and Amadee Nizigama from the Sydney University Kumva Kwibuka Program. Kumva Kwibuka; listen and remember is an educational program designed to educate students about the Rwandan Genocide through first hand accounts embedded into an educational program. Both Year 11 and 13 Legal Studies students learn about the Rwandan Civil War and subsequent Genocide from a International Legal Perspective. Students examine the Legal and Non-Legal Responses to the conflict and the humanitarian and refugee crisis resulting from this.
The workshops delivered to our students were an enriching learning experience, where they were able to discuss the personal experiences of survivors and the organisations that assisted them post-genocide. As always our students engaged in a mature and thoughtful manner, asking respectful questions. Dr Lander emailed after the program to congratulate our students for their respectful and mature engagement.
All of our assessments have been completed 8-12 for Term 3. For those that have not had their tasks returned to them, your teachers are working hard to mark them and return them back to you with meaningful feedback in a timely manner.
This week our students in 7-10 will be receiving their Semester 1 reports. Please use this as a guide to focus your efforts to improve your outcomes for Semester 2. This feedback is designed to inform students about their progress throughout the semester but should also be used as a guide for future endeavours.
Next term Year 10 HSIE Students will switch over to History for Semester 2, Year 9 Students will switch over to Geography, as do the Year 8 Students.
The HSIE team is busy organising some really fantastic learning opportunities for our students that will really engage and enrich their learning, so watch this space!
The HSIE team would like to wish all of our students a safe, and restful holiday.
Ms. Linda Dwyer
