As Term 2 wraps up, we celebrate what has been a time full of energy, growth, and community spirit. From the success of Carroll Kudos, recognising students and staff who go above and beyond, to the wide range of activities led by our Pastoral team, SLT, and SRC, it's been a term to remember!

Carroll Kudos recipients of Term 2:

MacKillop students - Keira Sharp, Sophee McFadyen, Tyler McDonald, Nick Wain, Indi Thomas, Jasmine Casagrande, Owen McDonald
Xavier students - Luke Drewsen, Molly Bates, Kaylee Edmonds, Indi Turnbull, Sebastian Lockhart, Marguerite James, Brennan Coffey

A special shout-out to the SLT and SRC for this week’s Bake Sale in support of Winter Woolies—a warm reminder of the generosity and leadership that continues to shape our school culture. Again, leadership has shone through this term and it will be an exciting Term 3 when we see our 2025 SLT bring to life their final initiatives while in their roles.

Finally, here is a snapshot from the SLT as they were challenged to summarise the term using only 5-7 emojis and explain why they chose them: "A Term in Emojis".

Year 11 students engaged entirely in the yLEAD program and it was very pleasing to see them interact and step right out of their comfort zones. Activities ranged in difficulty and proposed students with opportunities to problem solve and communicate within small to larger groups. It certainly was awesome to observe the students respond to the challenges that are designed to teach and build the cohort as a collective group of leaders when in Year 12, regardless of a badge and to work on their legacy as a year group.

Student reflections -

Annabelle Paull:
The yLead program was an engaging and interactive day. I enjoyed how we played fun games that had a deeper meaning on leadership. I learnt that leadership isn't just trying to 'one up' the year above but it's more about having your own legacy and being yourself, which adds more to the team anyway. It was an influential and relevant day to prepare us for our upcoming student leadership nominations. It was a really positive day and I hope future year groups are able to participate and gain what I did out of the yLead program.

Minnie Holland:
I enjoyed the experience as it immersed us with our peers, making us set out of our comfort zones and talk to other students we wouldn't necessarily always talk to, getting to learn more about who they are as a person. For me personally the biggest take away about leadership I learnt was, that leadership doesn't fit a specific mold, being a real leader is harnessing your strengths and abilities to lead in the best ways you personally can and leadership is specific to each individual person. Another thing I learnt, learning how to be a good leader is not only a journey you take when you become a senior and are in a "higher power" within your community, but it is also a journey you take throughout your whole life and will carry on when we leave school and become adults. Leadership is something we all need to confront head on and embrace in order to do the best of our abilities.

Sarah Lassau:
I enjoyed that our whole year came together and everyone was participating in the activities together which helped us all work together to achieve the goal of the activity, everyone running under the rope was my favourite activity as we all had to work together to figure out what the best technique was. I learnt that leadership and being a leader doesn't always have to come from a person who is good at everything and that being a leader is truly about being someone who others can look up to and make a difference no matter how big or small.

Kobi Buechner:
I enjoyed that the yLEAD program was interactive and inclusive for everyone. One of the biggest lessons I took away is that anyone can be a leader, no matter their personality type. Leadership is about stepping up when it matters, supporting others, and creating a positive impact in your school or community.

George Gilbo:
I enjoyed the yLead experience, it was fun watching everyone get involved and work as a team during all the different activities and games. I learned that leadership is more about legacy and what you leave behind for others in the future, rather than what you do in the present.

Georgia Lovegrove:
yLead was so much fun, I loved mixing with different people in our year group, and doing group tasks with people I don't normally hang around. What I learnt about leadership was that having open honest communication is a vital part in being a good leader, and working as a team is extremely important.

Matilda Bell:
I enjoyed connecting with my peers and stepping outside my comfort zone through fun, engaging activities. I learned that leadership is about being loving, respectful, and passionate towards others. It’s not just about being in charge—it’s about making a positive impact.
